In her recent work on Sinan, Necipoglu gives a very detailed account of the corps of royal architects as it existed in the sixteenth century. 67 Necipoglu notes that in the sixteenth century some trainees in workshops grouped near the storehouse at the left side of the palace's first court were promoted to the corps of royal architects. She also observes that in Sinan's time two official seats of the storehouse were the city prefect {$ehremini) and the chief architect (mi 'marba$i).
